How to choose the right depth of treatment for you...

I believe that the body holds tensions and experiences in different layers of the tissues.

Some things are held in the surface layers, some a little way down, some very deeply.  Depending on which layers you need to release on the day of your session will change the depth of the massage that is best for you.

Choosing the right depth of massage for you….

Each session I will ask you to choose the depth of the treatment you are about to receive…

Why?

I believe that the body holds tensions and experiences in different layers of the tissues.

Some things are held in the surface layers, some a little way down, some very deeply.  Depending on which layers you need to release on the day of your session will change the depth of the massage that is best for you.

And choosing the depth of your own treatment is powerful!  It tells your body that you are listening to its needs – so then the treatment flows in beautifully because it is going in in the right way for you.

If you need a really deep, slow, connecting massage and I give you a middle of the road depth, flowing treatment, you will feel frustrated because it feels that I never quite get to the point…. Or more that I don’t reach down to the layers where the releasing, soothing & connecting is needed.

If you need a light, fast treatment and I give you a slow, deep treatment, you will be hurt and upset that I pushed through too deeply past the areas that needed the touch.

If you need a medium depth treatment on your calves, but a deep treatment on your back and really light and still on your head and face and you tell me that – that is the treatment you will receive….and you will get the perfect massage for you.

How do you know what is the right depth for you?

You will know by feel and by experience.

Each time you have a massage you are improving your body awareness and so session by session you’ll get better and better at deciding what is just right for you…you will be designing your own massage, tailored to your specific needs at that time.

If you are unsure – ask me to demonstrate the different depths.

I think of depth as going from 1-10.  1 being the lightest and 10 being the deepest.

Clients often ask me….

Q: Does a deep treatment mean hard & painful?

A: No.

The treatments are powerful yet gentle.  If you feel any discomfort at all – tell me – I am not trying to hurt you.  The feeling I am looking for in you is a deep release whatever depth I am working at. A deep release feels good. A pain says “too much – lighten up – you’ve gone past where I need you to work!”

A deep treatment when it is the right thing for you feels wonderful.

Q: Does a light treatment mean ineffective?

A: No.

A light treatment is hugely effective when it is the right level for you.

Some clients who have always had deep, painful sports massage before working with me end up getting lighter and lighter in their treatments as they realise they actually release better with less depth because the issues they have need working at level 5 for example.

Q: Does a medium depth just mean I can’t decide and I am being boring?

A: No, not at all.

A medium depth treatment is perfect when that is where the release and soothing and connection is needed.

So choose the depth of treatment you want and know that if during the treatment you change your mind – Just Say!

What my clients say

I have been seeing Victoria for over 4 years now, we all have ongoing challenges, I still attend the sessions because it keeps me balanced overall.
